Coughlin the Oldest Coach to Win a Super Bowl

It’s not an understatement to state that the Hurley family loves everything Manning.  Archie, Peyton and Eli  (and Cooper if you are a Manning nerd like we are!) are the first family in football.  Last night’s big win by the Giants didn’t resonate with me because it cemented Eli’s football legacy – it resonated with me because Tom Coughlin became the oldest coach to win a Super Bowl.  In a sport that is obsessed with youthful coaches (the Harbaughs, Mike Tomlinson and Raheem Morris aren’t even 40!) it is fantastic to see Grandpa Coughlin win the biggest game of them all.  Coach Coughlin isn’t known for his warm bedside manner, but like a lot of “senior citizens” active in the work force, he has learned how to communicate with his young players to have them buy into the old-fashioned work ethic he promotes.  I hope that Tom’s victory inspires our country’s employers to really value the wisdom that comes with experience and the work ethic that comes with age.
