Veterans Day – National, Local and VetFriends

NATIONAL: Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Held on November 11th, the ceremony commences precisely at 11:00 a.m. with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns and continues inside the Memorial Amphitheater with a parade of colors by veterans’ organizations.

The Anthem Veterans Memorial, located in Anthem, Arizona, is a monument dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of the United States armed forces. The Memorial has five pillars that represent the five branches of the United States military. They are staggered in size and the military seal placements on each pillar are based upon the Department of Defense prescribed precedence, ranging from the United States Army, the United States Marine Corp, the United States Navy, the United States Air Force, and the United States Coast Guard. The pillar provides a place of honor and reflection for veterans, their family and friends, and those who want to show their respects to those service men and women who have and continue to courageously serve the United States. At precisely 11:11 a.m. each Veterans Day (Nov. 11th), the sun’s rays pass through the ellipses of the five Armed Services pillars to form a perfect solar spotlight over a mosaic of The Great Seal of the United States. http://militarybenefits.info/veterans-day/

LOCAL: A performance of “Silent Night” on November 11th and 13th by the Atlanta Opera is an opera like no other, sure to bring tears of remembrance to veterans and their families. The focus is a recreation of scenes from World War I of a Christmas truce among the Germans, French and Scottish solders, 100 years ago, around a battlefield in Belgium, near the French border.
