Community Resources

“I wish I had known about this sooner!”  is a statement we hear often from clients regarding community programs and our elder law services. So, how do you stay in the know? Today we are sharing some helpful online  community resources that are just a click away!

Area Agencies on Aging

The state of Georgia has 12 Area Agencies on Aging (AAA). An AAA is a non-profit organization created with the goal of providing seniors information on local services such as adult day centers, home care and home health providers, Medicare, elder abuse, volunteer opportunities and more.  Each AAA strives to promote healthy aging within the community. AARP Foundation

Another valuable local resource is the AARP Foundation. The AARP consists of the national program, your state program, and local city programs. By using the AARP Foundation search you can find local resources on volunteer information, housing, and insurance guidance, to name a few. You can easily search over 2000 programs available in the Atlanta area. The AARP website also includes current event topics and important advocacy information for older adults.

Empowerline

In addition,  Empowerline  (formerly AgeWise Connection) always includes helpful resources.  Empowerline helps older Georgians or individuals with disabilities navigate obstacles in their homes, with their health and with their communities. The service is provided by the Atlanta Regional Commission

Other helpful resources

Also available is the United Way of Greater Atlanta 2-1-1.  This website offers help for a variety of senior needs including transportation, and housing based on your zip code.

Don’t forget about your county’s senior services. The centers often offer classes, meals on wheels, caregiver assistance and so much more.
