September is Healthy Aging Month, a time to focus on the positive aspects of growing older and the choices we can make to support our well-being throughout life. Healthy aging certainly includes taking care of our bodies, but it is about much more than doctor visits, exercise, and eating well.
Stay curious
The 2026 theme is “Curiosity Has No Age Limit.” It encourages adults of all ages to embrace lifelong learning, ask new questions, and explore fresh
The CDC defines healthy aging as maintaining good physical, mental, and social health and well-being as we age. Just as importantly, healthy aging can begin at any age, and it is never too late to make positive changes.
Some suggestions for this year’s theme include:
- Staying connected with family and friends
- Pursuing hobbies
- Learning new things
- Volunteering
- Traveling
Make a plan
Knowing who you would want to help if you became ill, communicating your wishes to family members, keeping important information organized, and having appropriate legal documents in place can provide peace of mind and help preserve your independence.
