As Thanksgiving approaches, our team at Hurley Elder Care Law is reflecting on the many blessings we experience each day. Gratitude means appreciating what you have whether it be the ordinary or the difficult.
We are deeply grateful to our clients who trust us during some of life’s most important moments, to our referral partners who support our mission, and to our community of professionals who work tirelessly to serve older adults and their families.
We are equally thankful for our dedicated team, whose compassion, expertise, and heart make our work possible.
In the spirit of the holiday, we’re sharing a few of our team’s favorite Thanksgiving traditions:
- Kiersten and her mother host a traveling Thanksgiving buffet—Orlando in 2022, Atlanta in 2024, and this year, their hometown of Rochester, NY.
- Kim is Florida-bound, where her sister-in-law cooks the holiday meal while wearing a hilarious turkey hat—sparking laughter all day.
- Joanna and Miles are determined to capture their annual family Thanksgiving photo, which has been hard now that their boys live across the country. They are all together this year.
- Ali’s family always sips hot chocolate with mini marshmallows from Santa-shaped mugs and never skips their simple raspberry Jell-O and applesauce salad (recipe below!).
- Kelsie’s family goes to the movies in pajamas on Thanksgiving night and always orders popcorn and Icees.
- Nola’s family begins dinner with a prayer and each person shares one thing they are grateful for.
- Dawn’s family writes what they are thankful for on a large white “Gratitude Pumpkin.”
- Paul’s family enjoys a post-dinner walk through Piedmont Park.
- And every year, Louise brings her beloved Raspberry Allison cookies to the office to share. It has been a favorite recipe since childhood.
Ali’s Raspberry Jell-O & Applesauce Salad
- 2 cups boiling water
- 1 large box raspberry Jell-O
- 1 (12 oz) bag frozen raspberries, thawed & drained
- 1 cup applesauce
Dissolve Jell-O in boiling water. Stir in raspberries and applesauce. Refrigerate until firm.
Louise’s Raspberry Allison Cookies
- 2 sticks softened butter
- ⅔ cup sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp almond extract
- Dash of milk
- Raspberry jam
Cream butter, sugar, and almond extract. Gradually add flour until dough forms; add milk only if needed. Roll into 1-inch balls; place 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Make a small indentation with a melon baller and fill with raspberry jam. Bake at 350°F for 12–14 minutes, or until lightly golden. Cool on a wire rack.
From all of us at Hurley Elder Care Law, we wish you a warm, joyful, and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving. Please note that our offices will close at 12 PM on Wednesday and reopen for normal business hours on Monday, November 30th.
