National Nurses Week

Join ANA in celebrating the important role nurses play in health care during National Nurses Week, May 6^th to 12^th. This year’s official theme is “Culture of Safety: It starts with YOU!” ANA defines a culture of safety as one in which core values and behaviors, resulting from a collective and sustained commitment by organizational leadership, managers and workers, emphasize safety over competing goals. ANA is asking all nurses to consider how they can individually and collectively work toward creating a culture of safety in their workplace, which means ensuring not only the safety of their patients, but also their own safety. The Metro Atlanta Chapter and the Northwest Metro Chapter of the Georgia Nurses Association invites you to attend their 1st Annual Nurses’ Week Celebration! This celebration will be atop The Georgian Club, 100 Galleria Parkway SE, Atlanta, GA 30339, with a beautiful view of the city, on Friday, May 6, 2016, at 7:00 p.m.  There will be door prizes, a photo booth, gourmet food station, and a DJ!  This event provides an excellent opportunity to network with other nurses and businesses! National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event. As of 1998, May 8th was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week each year. The nursing profession has been supported and promoted by the American Nurses Association (ANA) since 1896. Each of ANA’s state and territorial nurses’ associations promotes the nursing profession at the state and regional levels. Each conducts celebrations on these dates to recognize the contributions that nurses and nursing make to the community. The ANA supports and encourages National Nurses Week recognition programs through the state and district nurses’ associations, other specialty nursing organizations, educational facilities, and independent health care.
