Strong Passwords Help Prevent Scams and Fraud

At Hurley Elder Care Law, we hear of cases of seniors getting scammed weekly. One common issue we have observed is that many people use the same password for all their online accounts. This is a huge problem for many reasons. Strong passwords can help prevent scams and fraud

Protecting your online accounts

In today’s digital world, protecting your online accounts is more important than ever. The average person has over 100 online accounts, making it nearly impossible to remember unique passwords for each one. Sadly, many people still rely on weak passwords or keep a written list, which is risky. A written list can be lost, stolen, or easily accessed by the wrong person, which leaves your most sensitive accounts vulnerable.

What is a password manager?

The solution? Password managers. A password manager is secure software that helps you create strong, complex passwords and stores them in a digital vault, all protected by a single master password. This means you only need to remember one strong password, while the program does the rest. Popular options like NordPass, Dashlane and 1Password offer user-friendly interfaces at a reasonable price, making them an excellent investment in your online security.

Multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Along with using a password manager, enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA) provides an extra layer of security. Even if your password is stolen, MFA needs an additional verification, like a code sent to your phone, before anyone can access your account.
