I went to the grocery store last week to stock up for our holiday festivities. I was astonished by my $300 food bill for what felt like just a handful of bags. I have been aware of the rising cost of food, but I took a closer look at my receipt. I noticed a box of my husband’s morning Cheerios was close to $10. It caused me to really consider what ‘value’ means to me.
What does value really mean?
In my role at Hurley Elder Care Law, I often discuss value. I ask people to consider the peace of mind they provide to their families through estate planning and the importance of surrounding themselves with a team of experts. When people protest that legal services are expensive, I highlight the many benefits they will gain and advise against being “penny-wise and pound-foolish.”
Although I know elder law services are an investment, I’d like to point out that you have a choice. You can research which firm may be the best fit for your family. Hurley Elder Care Law prides itself on providing top-quality, white-glove service to all our clients.
Building relationships
With over 20 years in business, we have built a firm of experienced attorneys and staff. Our founder, Miles Hurley, JD, CELA, always teaches the team that he wants our firm to be relationship-driven, not merely transactional. This relationship begins with our involvement in the community. We spend many days each year providing free education to the community and senior industry professionals.
This relationship continues when our phone rings. An intake specialist with extensive experience in elder law answers, provides the caller with resources, and schedules attorney consultations. 3 of our attorneys have earned the Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA) designation, more than any other elder law firm in GA. As you educate yourself about which firm is a fit for your family, please consider whether you will actually meet with an experienced elder law attorney at the first meeting. It is important that the legal plan fits your family’s unique situation.
A team of experts
As I share more of the ‘secret sauce’ for helping you choose the best legal team for your family, one key step is to look at the whole team. Does the law firm employ a team of experts to assist your family with Medicaid asset protection and probate, and to walk you through every step of funding your trust? Are social workers available to help your family if rehab or nursing home placement is needed, or to coach your family on advocacy or grief after a loved one passes away?
At the end of the day, buying my husband’s Cheerios is worth it to me because he eats it daily, piles it high with fruit and other healthy additions, and it helps him start the day feeling strong. You should feel the same sense of value in investing in your long-term care plans. Thoughtful decisions can be made, family discussions can be held, assets can be protected, and your relationship with Hurley Elder Care Law can begin.
