Medicare Open Enrollment 2025

The 2025 Medicare Open Enrollment period is here! It runs from October 15 to December 7, 2024. During this time, Medicare beneficiaries can review their current coverage and make changes that will take effect on January 1, 2025.

Seniors can switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan or vice versa, change Medicare Advantage plans, or modify their prescription drug (Part D) coverage. During Medicare open enrollment 2025, there are key details that seniors should be aware of.  Read below to learn more.

When selecting a plan, seniors should pay attention to several key factors:

  1. Costs: Compare premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses for different plans. Even small cost changes can add up, so looking at the full picture is essential, not just the monthly premium.
  2. Coverage: Ensure your doctors, hospitals, and preferred pharmacies remain in the plan’s network. Check if your prescription medications are covered and whether changes to drug tiers or co-pays will affect you.
  3. Quality Ratings: Medicare assigns star ratings to plans based on quality and patient satisfaction. Plans with higher ratings often provide better care and services.
  4. Extra Benefits: Medicare Advantage plans may offer additional services like dental, vision, or fitness programs that are unavailable under Original Medicare. However, Advantage plans can be more restrictive on care access, and switching out of some plans may be difficult. They may also limit benefits, making some care quite costly if needed.

It is important to compare your options carefully.

  1. Visit Medicare’s official website: Go to Medicare.gov to use their Plan Finder tool. This tool allows you to compare Medicare plans in your area.
  2. Speak to a Medicare counselor: Call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) to speak with a representative who can help you navigate your options.
  3. Talk to a trusted insurance agent: If you prefer a personal touch, contact a licensed insurance agent specializing in Medicare. They can guide you through your options and answer your questions. Our intake specialists at Hurley Elder Care Law can recommend Medicare agents, so feel free to call us at 404-843-0121.

Hurley Elder Care Law recommends evaluating these factors during open enrollment so that people can choose the best plan for their healthcare needs in 2025.
